Barnbarroch Pottery has an attractive showroom, originally converted from the old school porch. It has since been extended to create a light and attractive gallery open all year round, displaying Christine’s sculptural and illustrative ceramics and unusually decorated tableware.

ONE-OFF PIECES
Please visit the gallery to view current work and prices. However, while all of Christine's pots are individually made, other ceramic pieces are truly one-off in terms of design and execution. As it is not possible to put all of these on this site, for more information on them and for a full biography please go to: www.christinehestersmith.co.uk

Located in the former school at Barnbarroch, the premises have made an ideal pottery. The domestic ware is largely thrown on the wheel and decorated using coloured slips which are poured, trailed, brushed and sponged. The pots are glazed and re-fired to 1095 degrees centigrade. They are both oven and dishwasher friendly. Other pieces, such as long serving dishes, are extruded with applied edges and handles. These are both useful and pleasing as pictures in their own right.

All of Christine’s pots are individually made with love and attention. No two pieces are exactly the same; even designs which are repeated have individual variations - for example sheep may be running, jumping, or falling depending on the way the poured slip happens to have been applied.

The seaside village of Kippford is half a mile down the road and is a popular location for those who enjoy the beautiful Galloway landscape and sailing on the Solway Firth. In addition we now have one of the Seven Stanes Mountain Bike routes literally on our door step. The area is rich in wildlife with the RSPB nature reserve at Mersehead just 6 miles along the coast road.

Three miles from Dalbeattie on the A710 coast road, the studio is situated on the T- junction, turn off to Kippford, clearly marked with pottery signs.
